Final Paper Work

1. Artist Teacher Statement

This was a very time consuming project. I loved the freedom of being able to do almost anything, but that also caused a lot of confusion once we started coming up with theme ideas. If I were to do this with a class, I would give them a lot of time and change the directions a little bit. Our group struggled with the directions we were given. We took a lot of our group time trying to clarify what the point of the project was and if we were going the right direction. Instead of introducing this as individual projects combined into a larger project, I'd explain it as a group video in which each person creates a short personal segment including media, music, and voice-over work. I love the freedom we have in this class, but often felt lost or confused because I've been trained to follow specific directions. I think teenagers would react the same way, and even more so because they don't have the theatre background I do. It wouldn't be my first choice to use this assignment in an educational theatre setting, but it could be used as a way for them to experiment with media and projections in a scene. That is an increasingly popular form of modern theatre and it could be beneficial to have the students create a digital story to play in the background of a scene or to interact with on stage. It seems like an assignment for media students to be able to create a trailer for a show, but there are more ways it could be applied. It just takes so much class time. If I had a short period of time to work on a show with my actors, I don't think I'd want to take so much time for them to work together and create this.

2. Script/Storyboard
Video Clips used are highlighted.
(Photos of Young Self) When I was younger I didn’t know how to express myself. Well actually, it wasn’t as simple as that. (World’s Fair
I wanted to explore and absorb the world around me, but I didn’t have the opportunity to leave my community. I used to and still want adventure in the great wild somewhere, I want it more than I can tell. (Beauty and the Beast)
I’d take these experiences from film and draw personal strength from their adventures.
I would use characters’ experiences to supplement my own. Because I wanted to be just like them, I started to talk like them. It started with Disney Movies (opening) but as my arsenal of movies got bigger, so did my vocabulary. It’s awesome Jellyman. (Nemo)
It wasn’t just a love for quoting movies. Watching and quoting movies transported me to new worlds and new adventures until I was old enough to speak on my own. (Indiana Jones)
I like it muy macho! (Aladdin) You don’t understand. (On the Waterfront)
Speaking this way gives me strength and power I couldn’t find on my own! (Schindler’s List)
It might bother some people, but frankly my dear I don’t give a Damn. (Gone With The Wind)
(Photos of Current Self) And today I speak through movies, not only for personal strength and adventure, but for the connection it gives me with others. (Hepburn, E.T., Monsters Inc, Harry Potter)
